What is stand up pouch?

A stand up pouch (also called a standup pouch or Doypack) is a flexible packaging format that can support itself in an upright position on store shelves or at home. It’s widely used for food and non-food products because it combines the benefits of rigid packaging (shelf presence and stability) with the lightweight, space-saving advantages of flexible film.

How many types of stand up pouch are there? How to identify them?

Stand up pouch are a type of flexible packaging with high recognition. Even laymen can identify them by looking at the bottom of the bag, which we (people in the industry) collectively call “bottom gusset.” However, the types of stand up pouch are accurately classified by the different tops of the bags.

Heat Seal Stand up Pouches

This type of stand up pouch can be called the “originator” of all standup pouch, meaning that the top of the bag is open or not heat-sealed. The contents are filled into the stand-up pouch from here and then heat-sealed by a sealing machine.

Stand up Pouch With Zipper

This type of stand up pouch is very common in daily life or supermarkets. It is an evolved type of heat seal stand up pouches, meaning that a PE zipper is welded inside the top of the bag. The contents are filled from the top of the stand up pouch, the zipper is sewn, and the top of the bag is heat-sealed by a sealing machine.

Stand up Pouch With Spout

This type of stand up pouch is also an evolved type of heat seal stand up pouches, meaning that a spout is pre-welded directly above the top of the bag or at a 45-degree angle to the top of the bag. The contents are filled from the spout or directly above the top of the bag (referring to the corner spout bag).
